He began building the Estates\u2019 international reputation in Britain and the US, with his wines served at Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillips\u2019 wedding in 1947.\u00a0 In the 1960s, it also became a status symbol in the US after John KENNEDY identified it as his favourite wine.<\/p>\n<p>In 1961, Madame LOUBAT\u2019s niece and nephew, Monsieur Lignac and Madame Lacoste inherited the Estate.<\/p>\n<p>Several years later, Monsieur LIGNAC left his stake in the Estate to Jean-Pierre MOUEIX, sharing ownership with Madame Lacoste until she subsequently sold her remaining share to the Moueix family.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2001, the estate has been owned by Jean-Pierre Moueix\u2019s \u00a0son, Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Moueix, and since 2008 managed by his other son, Christian Moueix,<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the next generation, Jean Moueix (Jean Fran\u00e7ois\u2019 son) took over general management of the Estate.<\/p>\n<p>The Petrus estate\u2019s vineyards sit on a gently rising slope in Pomerol at an altitude of 40 m.\u00a0 The unique style and dimensions of the wine come from the magical interplay of the blue clay and the iron elements present in the soil and the nearly 100% Merlot grapes.<\/p>\n<p>The Estate\u2019s distinctive soil can be largely attributed to a fine clay called \u2018Montmorillonite\u2019 that is known for its ability to swell with water and help regulate the amount the vines are able to reach at the right times to optimise plant balance.\u00a0 According to Petrus winemaker, Olivier Berrouet, \u2018this makes the wines incredibly intense, concentrated and multi-dimensional with an extraordinary charm\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The wine has also benefitted from the involvement of Jean Claude Berrouet, who first worked at the \u2018Technical Institute of Vines and Wine Sciences\u2019 before joining Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1964 at the Petrus Estate to manage the estate\u2019s winemaking and run its various properties.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jean Claude has a very clear, rich vision of his job<\/em>, \u2018The oenologist is at the starting point of it all &#8211; the grape. Like the conductor of an orchestra, he follows the notes and the music but adds his own feeling and emotion. There\u2019s no secret formula or recipe. We produce a different wine every year by varying the inputs and by adapting all we do to the particular natural circumstances that year\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Since 2008, Jean Claude Berrouet\u2019s son Olivier Berrouet, has taken on the role of working with the team at Petrus and overseeing the continuation of this gem of an Estate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Interesting Fact:<\/span><\/strong><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Architects Jean-Pierre Errath and Bernard Mazieres developed a new vat cellar adapted to plot by plot fermentation for the Estate&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><em>For Jean-Claude Berrouet, this grand cru became what it is today thanks to its ability to, \u201ccomplement\u201d Bordeaux wines. The oenologist explains how, \u2018Saint Emilion is known for its light, airy, delicate style and its finesse; wine from M\u00e9doc is more austere and needs time to develop.\u00a0 Whereas Pomerol and specifically Petrus, surprise us with their sensuality.
